NIMASA releases list of accredited ship building, maintenance yards in Nigeria

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has released a list of accredited ship/boat building and maintenance yards in Nigeria, stating that all prospective design and construction of marine vessels in Nigeria with intention to be flagged or registered under the Nigerian Flag Administration would be restricted to the agency’s accredited yards.

According to a marine notice published by the agency on Monday, NIMASA informed shipowners, shipping companies, floating dock operators, indigenous and international oil companies that the notice will take effect from July 1, 2023.

The notice, which was signed by the management said all dry-dock maintenance of Nigerian flagged as well as foreign flagged vessels will be required to be conducted at the agency’s accredited yards, warning that failure to comply shall attract appropriate sanctions.

The Bashir Jamoh- led management of NIMASA also said in the notice that the agency shall recognize for approval prospective marine vessels building plans from the accredited yards only adding that only builders and dry dock certificates issued by accredited yards will be recognised.

“This marine notice shall cover the design, construction, and maintenance of the following: vessels of 100CRT above, speedboats of 200HP and above, barges, tugboats and Houseboats. Others are fishing trawlers, floating production, storage and offloading and Floating storage and offloading,” the notice said.

The accredited marine vessels building and maintenance yards according to the marine notice are Naval Dockyard Limited, Niger dock FZE, West Atlantic Shipyard, Python Engineering Company Limited, Gredor Nigeria Limited and IGA Shipbuilding and Repair Yard.

Others are, Starzs Marine and Engineering Limited, Warri Boat Yard, Niger- Benue Transport company, Big Fingers Oil Services Limited, West High Logistics Resources Limited, MG Vowgas Limited, Elschon Nigeria Limited and Yade Barge Operator Limited.
