Night guard in court over alleged theft

A 21-year-old night guard, Asimiyu Salami has been  arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing production equipment of a firm.

The accused person, working with a plastic manufacturing company based in Osogbo allegedly committed the offence on January 21, 2022 at Iyanu Plastic Nigeria Limited, behind Dugbe Police Station in Osogbo.

The night guard pleaded not guilty to the one count charge bordering on theft.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, told the court that the accused person stole the equipment said to be property of one Fidudusola Oluseun.

Adeoye said the accused person stole four pet mould, two bace plates, bolt and nuts of various sizes and nails worth N750,000.

The prosecutor said the offence committed was contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The defense counsel, K. Adepoju, prayed the court to admit his client to bail, assuring that he would provide reliable sureties that would stand for him.

In her ruling, Magistrate Muibah Olatunji, admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court and one of them must be a serving civil servant.

The case was adjourned till March 10 for hearing.
