Roadblocks set up by the Nigerian Army and other security forces in anticipation of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests have caused significant delays for motorists.
Reports indicate that those traveling into Abuja City Centre are now facing extended periods of traffic congestion due to military checkpoints on major routes.
Exiting Abuja and reaching the central areas of the Federal Capital Territory has become increasingly difficult.
A Daily Trust respondent, returning to the Zuba area of Abuja, remarked that it took him hours longer to get home compared to usual. “The security checks have made it almost impossible to move as quickly as we used to,” said Adebayo Tunde.
Commuters using the Zuba-Dei-Dei Expressway for work have reported roadblocks between Sabon-Wuse and Dikko Junction in Niger State, as well as between Zuba and Dei-Dei in the FCT.
Military checkpoints are also present in Bwari, Dutsen-Alhaji, at Karu Junction, before the Mogadishu Cantonment on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, and around Giri Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Highway.
The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest is scheduled to take place nationwide from August 1 to 10.
There has been deployment of 4,200 police personnel to the Federal Capital Territory for the protests, with the Immigration Service, mobile police, and other security agencies also increasing their presence.
