The Nigerian Army said it has commenced an investigation into an alleged killing of a driver, identified as Mr. Lawal, by some persons in military uniform.

Recall that the family of the late driver had raised the alarm over the alleged killing of their breadwinner last Thursday in Lagos.

Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, said an investigation is underway despite there being little information about the incident.

It said the investigation would be carried out by the Division in conjunction with the Police Command in Lagos, adding that if the suspects are identified to be serving soldiers, they will be made to face the full wrath of both military and civil laws.

“While the matter is under investigation, Headquarters 81 Division requests the family of the deceased to exercise patience and wait for the outcome of the investigation as whoever is found wanting will be made to face disciplinary action,” the statement said.

The Army reiterated its zero tolerance for troops’ misconduct or involvement in any form of criminality.

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Maj Gen MT Usman, commiserated with the family of the victim while promising that justice would be served accordingly.
