Nigeria@61: Youth organisation tasks Nigerians on peace, unity
Noble Youths Mass Support Association (NYMSA) an NGO, has called for peace, love and unity among Nigerians for sustainable development of the country.
Mr Godwin Onmonya, the National Coordinator of the group made the call on Wednesday, in an interview with newsmen in Gwagwalada to commemorate Nigeria at 61st independence.
According to him, the country needs prayers, support and patriotic citizens to move the country forward, adding that peaceful co-existence is necessary for nation building.
“I call on all Nigerians to love, tolerate one another and be patient with the government for peaceful coexistence and development of the country.
“Every Nigerian should also promote peace, unity and extend hands of friendship to the needy to improve on their living standard.
“There is need to share the little you have with your neighbours, irrespective of religious or ethnic background; that will go a long way in saving the country,” he said.
Omonya said that meaningful development could only be achieved in an atmosphere of love, peace and unity.
The national coordinator also called on political office holders to reflect on issues bordering on corruption, joblessness and ways of avoiding violence to promote stability and development.
He said the organisation was undergoing a nationwide sensitisation tour with a view to meeting all major stakeholders in order to chat a new course for peace in most of the troubled regions of the country.
“Nigeria is a country of diverse cultures and traditions which can easily be explored for the development of the country through love, care and good relationship with God.
“There is unity in diversity; that is the strength of Nigeria, our country and will forever remain our strength; love and tolerance brought about unity in the country.
“It is time for Nigerians, especially the youths to plan and secure their future with leadership and empowerment skills for economic development.
“The whole essence is to build your capacity and explore ways and innovation that will prepare youths for representation in leadership positions at all levels,” he said.
