Nigeria Secondary School Flag football League Season 3 kicks off Oct.7

Lawrence Ojaideh, Head of Operations, Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA), the organisers of the Nigerian Secondary School Flag Football League (NSSFFL), says the season three edition of the league will start on Oct. 7.

Ojaideh told the Newsmen in Lagos on Thursday that over 12 states across the federation would host this year’s championship, which would be highly competitive like never before.

According to him, the competition will hold its preliminary stage in the states of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Delta, Abuja, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Benue, Ekiti, Kwara and Rivers from Oct. 7 to Nov.18.

He added that Corona School Lekki and Baptist Academy School, Obanikoro are to host the state championship for Lagos, where no fewer than 24 schools would be competing for honours.

He also said that 12 schools would be competing for honours in other states, making  a total of 168 schools competing nationwide in the 2024 edition.

“The state winners for male and female will be at the national championship to be hosted by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, from Nov. 4 to Nov. 9, 2024.

“NAFA is preparing well for the season by ensuring the continued improvement of players and Scouting Camps, which will still happen alongside all these tournaments around the country.

“NAFA has international partnerships with great organisations to provide university educational scholarships to hundreds of its students athletes who perform at the highest level,” Ojaideh told Newsmen.

He added that the President of NAFA, Babajide Akeredolu, continues to seek greater sponsorship to ensure the entire country is covered with this opportunity.

The Government Secondary School Eket, Akwa Ibom, emerged 2023 champions in the male category while Africa Church Grammar School, Ogun, were champions in the female category.
