Nigeria joins world skills international, expands global skills training opportunities — NBTE
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced Nigeria’s admission into World Skills International (WSI), marking a significant milestone in the country’s vocational education and skills development.
This update was confirmed in a letter dated August 20, 2024, from David Hoey, CEO of the WSI Secretariat in Amsterdam.
Head of Media at NBTE, Mrs. Fatima Abubakar, revealed that the letter not only acknowledged Nigeria’s membership but also included a membership certificate signed by the WSI President and CEO.
This membership enables Nigeria to partake in World Skills Competitions and provides access to global training, mentorship, and scholarships.
Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris Bugaje, expressed gratitude for the support from the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and praised the efforts of Mrs. Yemisi Akinrinade and the Nigerian team. Bugaje emphasised the importance of this achievement, stating, “The journey started over 10 years ago and we just achieved this great feat. World Skills Nigeria has now been realised.”
He encouraged both the government and the private sector to support World Skills Nigeria’s programs and to promote skills as a primary career choice for Nigerian youth.
