Nigeria Immigration probes woman for destroying husband’s passport at Lagos Airport

…She will get tired – Husband speaks out

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched an investigation into an incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, where a woman was filmed destroying a Nigerian passport.

The woman, identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, confessed to damaging the passport, which belonged to her husband.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred at the airport, where Mrs. Igiebor was seen in a video tearing the passport. Despite her admission, airport officials did not take any action, allowing her to leave with her two children.

NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo confirmed the incident and stated that the Comptroller General of Immigration, K.N. Nandap had ordered Mrs. Igiebor to be summoned for further investigation.

The NIS emphasised that if the allegations are confirmed, her actions would violate the Immigration Act 2015, which could lead to legal consequences. The agency reiterated its commitment to upholding the law and maintaining national security.

According to the Immigration Act 2015, the deliberate destruction of a passport is a serious offence, punishable by law. Section 10(b) of the Act states that any act contrary to this act can result in penalties, including fines, imprisonment, or both. If found guilty, Mrs. Igiebor may face legal action, including fines, imprisonment, or other legal penalties determined by a court of law.

Meanwhile, Mr. Igiebor, her husband, has spoken out about the incident. In an interview, Mr. Igiebor revealed that his wife had accessed his social media account and posted a video message, saying, “My wife posted something, I know she has gone far because she is very smart. She has gone far to get the password of this page and she posted something this morning.”

Mr. Igiebor added, “Since she wants us to do it this way, we will work on it together. I believe she will get tired.”

He also mentioned that the video had already garnered attention from various bloggers and even international media outlets like CNN. “Go and watch the video; I have the full clip. You’ll see something. She did not know that I gave somebody my phone,” he explained.

Mr. Igiebor refrained from saying much about the cause of the incident but urged Nigerians to watch the complete video.

He also stated that the issue could be resolved as a family matter, saying, “This is something that we can solve as a family, but she is trying to push it up. No problem, I’m following her and I will tackle it, and she will get tired.”
