Nigeria Immigration probes personnel accused of employment racketeering

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has spoken on the indictment of an officer, Babangida Tanko, accused of involvement in employment racketeering.

He allegedly collected money from unsuspecting members of the public with the promise of securing jobs for them.

NIS Public Relations Officer, Amos Okpu said that though Tanko is personnel, he is not an aide to Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola.

The spokesman, in a statement, noted that his actions do not represent what the Service or Ministry stands for.

Okpu confirmed that acting Comptroller General Isah Jere has ordered an investigation for disciplinary actions.

The NIS told Nigerians that recruitment exercises are usually publicized in the media and on the Service’s website.

The statement said applicants who apply and participate in processes including computer-based examination and physical screening are formally notified.

“The public is hereby enjoined to discountenance any promises for job placements into the Service by anyone to avoid being swindled by criminal elements”, Okpu added.
