Nigeria first Lady, Oluremi Tinubu gets OAU honorary degree as 215 bag first class

The Nigeria First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, would be conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degrees (PhD. Honoris Causa) by Obafemi Awolowo University (OAu), Ile-Ife during its 48th Convocation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Simeon Bamire, made the disclosure while speaking on activities lined up for the 48th convocation, at Floor “0” Senate Building of the University, on Thursday, in Ile-Ife.

Bamire said that other distinguished Nigerians of exceptional integrity that have contributed to humanity and the University and would also awarded are: Chairman of Mutual Benefit Plc. Dr Akinade Ogunbuyi.

He explained that a distinguished entrepreneur, academic and engineer, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe and a seasoned business leader and telecommunication expert, Prince Karl Toriola were among the awardees.

According to him, a prominent figure in the oil and gas sector, Daere Afonya-Akobo would also be conferred with honorary award.

The VC noted that out of a total number of 7,368 graduates of the prestigious institution that would be awarded various degrees, 215 make first class.

He stated that out of 6,015 Classified Degrees, 2,198 graduated with Second Class Upper Division and 2,691 graduands made second Class Lower Division.

Bamire said further that 755 fell into Third Class Honours, while 61 graduates are with Upper Credit, 33 with Lower Credit and 62 with Graduate with Pass.

He added that the graduates have excelled both in learning and character and that most of them are entrepreneurs who were prepared to create jobs rather than seeking employment.

“For 395 Unclassified Degrees, we have 13 Distinction; 59 Pass with Distinction;154 Pass with Credit and 169 graduands goes with Pass.

“For 958 Postgraduate Degrees, we have 74 graduands that are Postgraduate Diplomas; 708 Master’s Degrees;176 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

“The Convocation is to be held for three consecutive days, starting from Thursday, 12th to Saturday, 14th December, 2024 at Amphitheatre of Oduduwa Hall of the University Campus”. He analysed.

Bamire said that on Thursday, 12th, graduating students in five faculties of: Administration, Arts, Education, Law and Social Sciences would bags Bachelor’s Degrees.

“On Friday, 13th, Eight Faculties shall be awarding Bachelor’s Degrees to their graduands in: Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Environmental Design and Management, Pharmacy, Science and Technology.

“The grand-finale of the Convocation comes up on Saturday, 14th with conferment of Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters, Masters of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees.
