Nigeria and Indonesia sign agreement on palm oil production

Nigeria and Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance palm oil production and market expansion, with the goal of moving beyond traditional methods and enhancing the income of smallholder farmers.

The MoU was formalized in Abuja by the National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) and the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI).

Amb. Alphonsus Inyang, President of NPPAN, indicated that the agreement would equip smallholder farmers with essential palm oil knowledge, technology, and economic benefits. He noted that the MoU is designed to promote growth in Nigeria’s palm oil sector and foster beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Eddy Martono, Chairman of GAPKI, affirmed Indonesia’s dedication to supporting the development of Nigeria’s palm oil industry and strengthening bilateral cooperation. He highlighted that Indonesia aims to diversify its palm oil market, with Nigeria’s strategic location providing an ideal opportunity for this expansion.

Sahabi Muazu, Director of the Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria, expressed optimism that the MoU would stimulate growth in Nigeria’s palm oil sector.

Lolita Bangun, GAPKI Deputy Secretary-General, pointed to Nigeria’s potential as a lucrative investment destination, noting the success of IndoMie in the country. She explained that the agreement seeks to boost palm oil exports to Nigeria, which is experiencing growing demand for the product. With Indonesia’s expertise and Nigeria’s strategic location, the partnership is expected to significantly benefit the palm oil industry in both nations.
