Niger State: FRSC records 303 deaths in 524 accidents

No fewer than 303 died in 524 road accidents in Niger from January to December, Mr Kuwar Tsukwam, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state has said.

Tsukwam told the Newsmen in Minna on Tuesday that the accidents occurred in different parts of the state.

He also said that 1,769 people were injured from the road accidents, citing non-compliance of motorists with traffic as the causes of the accidents.

“Speeding, dangerous driving and poor condition of roads are also among the causes.

“Our focus in 2023 was to change the attitude of the drivers and ensure that they obeyed traffic rules; we went to garages and checked the blood pressures of drivers.

“When we discovered that drivers were not in good state of health, we referred them to qualified medical personnel.

“We also organised training for drivers once in a month; we worked on their psychology and let them know why they should drive safely,” he said.
