Niger govt shuts down tertiary health institution in Suleja over poor standards

Niger State Government has ordered the closure of the ASSI College of Health Sciences in Suleja over poor standards of operation.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abubakar Baba Aliyu who gave the directive to close down the health institute said the decision was taken based on substandard practices by the school.

He vowed to shut down other Tertiary Health Institutions that fail to meet operational standards as stipulated by the state government.

He made the threat during a tour of health institutions in Suleja, Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

Aliyu also reiterated the commitment of the state government to enforce adherence to new operating standards, laid for tertiary health institutions.

He said,” We are in Suleja on an inspection tour as part of the ministry’s commitment to enforcing compliance with the state new operating standard for tertiary health institutions in the state. We ordered that the school be closed due to substandard practices until it meets the standard of a tertiary health institution”

” The ministry is ready to stamp out mushroom health training institutions for the betterment of people of the state.

The commissioner explained that the state government has decided to improve and expand existing tertiary health institutions in the state to discourage the proliferation of private schools, particularly those below standard.
