Niger CAN decries attack on Anglican Bishop of Bida diocese over land dispute, sues for peace
The Niger chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has condemned the recent attack on the Bishop of Bida Diocese, Anglican Communion, the Rt. Rev. Jonah Kolo, over a land dispute.
This is contained in a statement on Saturday in Minna, signed by Dr Mathias Echioda, the state Chairman, CAN, and made available to newsmen.
“CAN condemns the attack by suspected aggrieved persons on Kolo who was in his farm on Tuesday (December 7, 2021),” he said.
Echioda appealed to everyone involved to embrace peace and let the relevant law enforcement agencies carry out their responsibilities.
The CAN Chairman also advised members of the Church to avoid any form of reprisal attacks or be allowed to be used by those who do not want peace and love to prevail.
Reacting, Kolo said the farm land in contention belonged to his family and was never in contention.
“The farmers in kopa community in Lavun Local Government Area where the farm is located can testify that the land belonged to my family and we have been cultivating the farm land for years without any challenge by any group or person.
“My worry is that how can a farm be cultivated and ready for harvest now turn to be the property of the attack syndicate,” he queried.
