NiDCOM says devt of countries dependent on nationals, diaspora

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM)  says the development of any country is a collaboration of the citizens living and working in such country and  those in the Diaspora.

This is contained in a statement  by Mr Gabriel Odu, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NiDCOM, in Abuja on Wednesday.

NiDCOM  Chairman,  Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa stated this when Dr Monica Alabi, a Nigerian-UK based medical specialist in Healthcare Policy and Leadership paid a courtesy call to the commission in Abuja.

Dabiri-Erewa, re-emphasised the need for diaspora skills transfer.

The skills transfer was to obtain excellence and efficient service delivery in the healthcare sector in Nigeria.

She maintained that Nigeria had the top best medical practitioners in the world.

She also added that if they partnered with the medical practitioners at home, it would boost Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system.

More so, Dabiri-Erewa applauded Alabi for making the nation proud and urged others to be inspired by her.

Dabiri-Erewa further assured her of the Commission’s availability to support her vision in whatever capacity for the country.

Earlier, Alabi explained that her purpose for the visit was to push for a policy that would enable access to better medical attention within every three kilometre radius in the country.

The doctor also said healthcare was very key, as a healthy nation equaled  a  growing Gross Domestic Product.

She said such practice was done in the UK and believed it was doable in Nigeria, especially with the new government in place.

Alabi, who is a member of the Doctors for Change Initiative and WimBiz, requested for partnership between such organisations and NiDCOM.

Alabi  is a philanthropist, and an expert in policy and leadership in the healthcare system, she is also the Founder of Beyond Wealth Initiative.
