Nibo killings: Anambra claims locals are hindering the investigate

Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has cried that some indigenes of Nibo community, where about 12 persons were killed on Sunday, were suppressing an investigation into the incident.

The CP who visited the community on Monday for an on the sport assessment, said some indigenes were keeping back information that could help the investigation.

He also lamented that relatives of the deceased persons have picked up the bodies of the victims and quickly committed them to the earth in burial, disrupting what would have provided a lead to cracking the identity of those behind the dastardly act.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, which was sent to Newsmen, however said the Police will double efforts to unravel the identity of those behind the killings.

The statement read, “Anambra State Police Command remains committed to the ongoing investigation and to arrest the perpetrators of the cult-related killings in Nibo yesterday 20/10/2024.

“The Command also frown at the act of some deceased’s relatives to bury evidence, suppress information and disrupt the ongoing investigation.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam today 21/10/2024 led Police Operatives to the scene on a spot assessment and Stated that the Command had redoubled its efforts to leave no stone unturned in hunting down the assailants.”

The Command however insisted that only five persons died in the attack, while three others who were seriously injured are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
