NewsDirect Publisher escapes attack, as PDP, APC thugs clash in Ile-Ife

The publisher, Nigerian NewsDirect Newspaper, Dr. Samuel Ibiyemi on Thursday escaped being attacked in Ile-Ife on his way to his country home.

Suspected thugs from People’s Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress clashed at Lagere, Fajuyi Road, going on rampage as residents ran away for their lives.

Ibiyemi was said to have been coming from Lagos to Ile-Ife, his country and incidentally ran into the thugs brandishing dangerous weapons and attacking innocent residents in the area.

He was said to have luckily escaped from his attackers who could not quickly identify him as his car zoomed off,

Findings show that the suspected thugs have vandalised properties belonging to innocent residents of the area as they ran away for their lives.

It would be recalled that Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, had on Wednesday and Thursday invited candidates of all political parties for peace talks in his palace, warning them to desist from further crisis and allow peace to reign. Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi also addressed press conference in his palace on Thursday on same subject matter in the town.

Barely four hours after the world press conference, another politically motivated attack occurred in the town.

He said election should not be seen as do or die affair, and as such, the wanton destruction of lives and property was uncalled for.

Ibiyemi therefore called on security agents to arrest and bring the perpetrators to book, to serve as deterrent to others.
