Newborn baby found in Jigawa farm

A newborn baby abandoned on a farm in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State was found alive on Sunday morning.

The baby boy was found inside a carton by a farmer working on his farm, who promptly informed the village head of Wurya in Gwaram Tsohuwa about the incident.

Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram, the personal assistant to the chairman of Gwaram Local Government, said they took the baby first to the Divisional Police Officer of Gwaram LGA and later to the hospital, where he was confirmed healthy.

According to him, the baby was taken back to the local government chairman, Zaharaddeen Abubakar, who immediately requested a search for a woman who could take care of him.

Rukayya Aliyu, who volunteered to take care of the baby, did so with the consent of her husband, the district head of Wurya, Malam Aminu Abdul-Hamid.

The baby was subsequently named Zaharadden, after the LGA chairman, just as the new family also named him Aminu, with his full name as Zaharaddeen Aminu Gwaram.

Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram further disclosed that the local government chairman also pledged a monthly allowance for the carer in addition to other necessary support, at least till the end of his tenure as the chairman of Gwaram Local Government Area.
