New NiMet Act guarantees impactful future  – DG

Prof. Mansur Matazu, the Director- General, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), says the new Agency’s Establishment Act 2022 will pave way for an effective and impactful future for the Agency.

Matazu, who was represented by the Director of Human Resources, Alhaji Saleh Tukur , made the assertion during his welcome address at the Management Sensitization workshop on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him, the Agency’s Establishment Act 2022 which was signed into law by the former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, in Aug. 2022 can pave way for an effective and impactful future for the Agency.

“The enactment of this legislation marks a major milestone for the Agency. This legal framework enhances the Agency’s capabilities, adaptability, and overall effectiveness in fulfilling its mandate.

“I am happy to approve the programme because of its significance in empowering staff to navigate the new legislative landscape of the Agency and the new roles and responsibilities it brings.

“Understanding  the Act  is not just about comprehending our individual roles but also how each department and every individual contribute to our collective success,“ he said.

The director – general added that the workshop would be an opportunity for the management staff to delve into the intricacies of NiMet Establishment Act  to decode its provisions and implications.

Earlier, the Secretary of the Agency, Mr Hamza Yamel thanked the director – general for giving  the Legal Department the opportunity to explain the amendments in the NiMet Act, 2022 to the management staff.

According to him, creating the avenue is critical to the effective implementation of the statutory functions of the Agency.

Yamel stated that the workshop was intended to bring the management up to date on  the new amendments and explore to improve operations and overall legal landscape.

“The major objectives of organising the sensitization workshop is to acquaint Management staff with the key new and enhanced provisions in the NiMet Act  2022.

“ Explaining the implications of these provisions and suggesting way forward for the effective implementation of the Act.

“The workshop is the first step in the process of setting and establishing guidelines for the sector and specific regulations for the implementation of the provisions of the  new Act for compliance , monitoring and enforcement.
