The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed recent rumors circulating in the media regarding the payment of a ₦70,000 minimum wage to corps members and the directive to upgrade their accounts.
In a statement released on Saturday by the scheme’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC affirmed that it has not received any directive from the relevant government sector responsible for wage matters.
The statement, titled “RE: UPGRADING CORPS MEMBERS ACCOUNT TO ACCOMMODATE #70,000 MINIMUM WAGE,” described the circulating information as “absolute falsehood” and “far from the truth.
The NYSC urged corps members, parents, and the general public to disregard the misleading information, emphasizing that it is impossible for the scheme to issue any information on wage matters without receiving a directive from the appropriate government sector.
The NYSC further admonished corps members to refrain from allowing mischief-makers who seek to mislead Nigerians to play on their intelligence. The statement also warned bloggers and social media influencers against issuing statements concerning the management of the NYSC without proper authorization.
