NEMA DG, Ahmed, honours dead, injured staff

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director-General Mustapha Ahmed has honoured the staff of the agency that died, injured or traumatised in active service.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Manzo Ezekiel, Head, Press Unit, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ahmed said that the special recognition was in appreciation of their sacrifices in the course of rescue, supports, as they served humanity.

The Director-General urged the staff not to be dismayed but continue to be committed and dedicated as their service to humanity would not be in vain.

He also advocated for reasonable emoluments such as, hazard allowances for the staff in view of the risk they faced in the discharge of their duties.

“In the spirit of the recent World Humanitarian Day, we are remembering and celebrating NEMA humanitarian actors that have lost their lives and those that have suffered injury and trauma in the line of duty.

“It is on record that some NEMA staff have died, kidnapped, while many others suffered tragic experiences while on active duty.

“Today’s event is, therefore, a period during to pause, remember and celebrate these heroes and in retrospect think of means and ways of recognising their service to the nation and humanity at large,” he said.

Director, Human Resource Management, NEMA, Mr Musa Zakari, appreciated the Director-General for the recognition and honour given to the staff.

Plaques of recognition were presented to 10 staff, among them were two staff who lost their lives on duty and whose plaques were received by their relations.

They are John Iliya, who was shot dead in 2018 by terrorists in Borno, and Abiwale Emmanuel, who was knocked down by a trailer while on Operation Eagle Eye duties.

Others are Bilyaminu Yahaya, Labaran Ahman, Ogbu Joseph and Ikisikpo Minafel, who sustained injuries.

Also honoured were Julius Alumonoh, Egwu Damian Ude, Ugwu Ebere Wendy and Ojukwu Olisaemeka who were kidnapped and spent weeks in hostage before their release.
