Negligence to duty won’t be condoned henceforth – Yobe govt tells information officers

The Yobe State government has warned its information officers that it will henceforth not condone negligence to duty.

The government through the Permanent Secretary State Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Kashim Tijjani Kalli handed down the warning in a meeting held with information managers.

Kalli charged them to rededicate themselves to their duties of publicizing government policies and programs for the betterment of the state.

“As voices of government at the various MDAs, all information officers must cover and disseminate activities and programs of their agencies of assignment”, he said.

According to the permanent secretary, the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni is expending huge amounts on projects and programs but only a few are reported.

“This unacceptable situation calls for a redirection of information management and reporting.

“To change the narrative of under reportage, the directorate is taking decisive measures geared towards improving the performance of the information officers”, he said.

While encouraging the officers to ginger up and perform optimally, the Permanent Secretary assured IOs in the state that, there will be a refresher in-house and on-the-job training as well as improved monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, aimed at achieving the desired goal.
