NECO boosts examination process with cutting-edge OMR scanner

…acquires high-performance scantron insight 1500c machine

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has acquired a state-of-the-art Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanner.

This high-performance Scantron Insight 1500c machine, inaugurated at the ICT Department in Minna, is designed to substantially improve the efficiency, accuracy, and security of NECO’s examination processes.

According to NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi on Thursday, the acquisition of this advanced scanner reflects the council’s commitment to enhancing the speed and reliability of examination procedures.

“With this new addition, we will significantly enhance our data processing capabilities, ensuring faster and more accurate results for millions of candidates across the world,” Wushishi stated.

The Scantron Insight 1500c machine boasts impressive capabilities, processing over 15,000 OMR sheets per hour and 250 sheets per minute, while simultaneously scanning and scoring scripts.

This investment, valued at approximately N500 million, underscores NECO’s dedication to leveraging cutting-edge technology to modernize its operations and maintain the credibility of its examinations.

As emphasized by the Director of the ICT Department, Mr. Goddy Usioboh, the acquisition of this high-performance scanner aligns with NECO’s vision of providing world-class examination services while safeguarding the integrity of its assessments.

Moreover, Mr. Tom Harry, technical adviser from Scantron Company in Minnesota, USA, commended the dedication of NECO’s ICT staff during the training on operating the new machine .
