The National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited additional foreign schools to participate in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The newly accredited institutions are located in the Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea.

The Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NECO, Mr. Azeez Sani,  made the announcement in a statement, revealing that the accreditation followed comprehensive assessments by the NECO Accreditation Team.

The team visited the schools to evaluate their readiness, inspecting key facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and examination halls, ensuring they met the standards required for administering NECO exams.

“This expansion marks a significant step for NECO, demonstrating our commitment to providing quality education and assessments beyond Nigeria’s borders,” the statement said.

NECO’s growing global presence positions the examination body to become a leading educational institution across Africa, offering opportunities for students worldwide to benefit from its expertise.

Also, the statement highlighted the ongoing NECO SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic, marking the UNHCR School in Diffa as the first-ever NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria.

NECO exams are now held in multiple countries, including Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia, solidifying its role as an international examination body.
