NEC reiterates commitment to end oil theft

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday reiterated its commitment to end oil theft in the country.

The Chairman of the NEC Sub-Committee on Crude Oil Theft, Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo, told newsmen shortly after meeting with the Chairman of NEC, Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The sub-committee was constituted in Dec. 21, 2023 following deliberations on critical economic matters and assessments of potential short-term, medium and long-term strategies for addressing pressing economic issues.

Uzodinma said that the sub-committee was working assiduously to address oil theft which he described as a “monster.”

“I come to welcome back the Vice President From the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and you know he is the Chairman of NEC.

“I came to give him an interim briefing arising from the sub-committee on crude oil theft that I am chairing on behalf of NEC. So, we had a very positive discussion. It’s still a work in progress.

” We are addressing it. At the end of the day, we are going to bring a final solution to this monster called crude oil theft,” the governor assured.”

On reconciliation between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano state, Uzodinma said the state was not only important to APC but to Nigeria.

According to him, government is one and no matter the political party you belong to, we are one.

” At the end of the day, what we are looking for is how to ensure that the ordinary man on the street is taken care of.

” And also there is security for all of us and the welfare of our citizens is also protected. These are the primary purpose of government.

” Kano is not only important to APC but to Nigeria, so it’s an important state for all of us. NNPP is a political party, APC is a political party.

” The most important thing is the interest of Nigerians and the people.” (
