NDLEA arrests 279 suspects in Kaduna, recovers 2,092.5kg of illicit drugs

In a statement issued to journalists by the commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna State, Samaila Danmalam, it was revealed that a total of 279 suspects have been apprehended in the first quarter of the year.

These arrests encompassed individuals involved in drug trafficking, dealing, and usage.

According  to the Commander, “Operationally, the command has arrested 279 suspects; the figure has to do with drug traffickers, dealers and users, while operatives also dislodged 39 illicit drug joints in different locations of the state.”

He said the  success of the operations has led to the seizure of illicit substances, including cocaine, heroin, cannabis, tramadol, Methamphetamine and other psychotropic substances grossly weighing 2,092.5 kilograms.

He further revealed that the command was able to get hold of 48 convictions, arraigned 68 suspects and charged 34 others all  within the first quarter of the year.

Mr Danmalam said the command carried out rehabilitation, counselling and sensitisation across various formations with the aim of enlightening the public on the dangers associated with the use and trafficking of illicit substances.

He urged the public to shun illicit drug abuse and trafficking, appealing to the citizens to provide useful and timely information to assist the command in carrying out its mandate in the state.
