The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), has inaugurated an administrative block built, furnished and donated to Government Secondary School, Ballah in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara.

The Managing Director of NDIC, Mr Bello Hassan, when inaugurating the project on Wednesday in Ballah, said the project was facilitated by the Chief of Staff to President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Hassan, represented by Head of Planning Department, NDIC, Mr Olawale Salako, said the corporation over the years had sponsored a number of projects in educational institutions nationwide as part of its corporate social responsibility.

He said the essence was to make the academic environment conducive for learning.

The Managing Director explained that the initiative was part of the corporation’s assistance towards the enhancement of educational activities and to move the country forward on the part of social economic development.

According to him, “It is common knowledge that most of the Nigeria institutions of learning lack infrastructural facilities resulting in poor standards of education.

“Against this background, it has become necessary for corporate organisations such as NDIC, other well-meaning groups and individuals within and outside the country to come to the aid of our educational institutions.”

On his part, the District Head of Ballah, Alhaji Salman AbdulKareem, commended the NDIC for donating the building to the community.

He urged the corporation to assist in the provision of more structures to schools in the community to enhance the education of their children.

Abdulkareem also appreciated Prof. Gambari for initiating the construction of the project, saying that if more citizens were like him, Nigeria would be a better place for everybody.

On her part, the Principal of the School, Mrs Aishat Saheed, commended the NDIC for the great donation and promised to maintain the building.

She sought for more infrastructures such as science laboratory, library, fencing of the school and school bus.
