NDE flags off four-in-one programme in Rivers

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Rivers State Chapter, has flagged off a four-in-one programme as part of the efforts to skill up residents of the State.

The four-in-one programme are Advanced National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (ANOAS), Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (BNOAS), and Quick-fix- Programme and Resettlement Scheme.

The State Coordinator of NDE, Mrs Maureen Okeji said the training programme is for the whole states in Nigeria and all the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

Mrs Okeji said the training programme would be intensive for all the participants, pointing out that the government wants every individual to be skilled no matter the level of their qualifications.

She said self-employment remains the best, urging the trainees to pay attention to the trainers also noting that there must be agreement between the two parties.

According to her, the skill acquisition programme is of different categories, comprising tailoring, hair dressing, catering, shoe making and bag making, welding and bead making.

She said those that successfully completed their programmes and have been resettled will be visited by Management in their various fields to ensure that their loans are repaid for others to benefit from the scheme.

Also speaking, the Director General of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo represented by Mr Ibrahim Musa of the Vocational Skills Development Department, Headquarters Office, told the trainees that the government is training them to be useful to themselves and to the society.

He said the over 600 trainees in the various schemes will be handled well by government and that everything he observed would be reported to the DG in Abuja.

He advised the participants to adhere to the  mode of conduct and ethics in their fields if they want to achieve what they desire.

He also tasked the trainers to teach their trainees those tools that will assist them succeed in life, saying that personal relationship is only what they need to excel in the skills.

The DG advised that there should be a log book, ID card, attendance register and bank account from any of the banks, noting that without the trainees NDE will be meaningless.
