NCNE trains staff, pledges to sustain quality of personnel
The National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) on Monday promised to sustain the quality of its staff through constant training.
Prof. Bashir Usman, Executive Secretary of the Commission, made the pledge at the opening of a five-day training for 81 staff of the Commission.
He said such training would boost the technical and professional capacities of NCNE staff.
He thanked the Minister of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), for providing funds for the training and programmes of NCNE.
Speaking at the occasion, NCNE Director of Administration, Ndagiman Bala, said the main goal of Nomadic Education Programme (NEP), was to make quality education accessible, functional and relevant to nomadic target groups.
According to him, these set goals can hardly be achieved without training of staff in relevant knowledge.
“Our effort is to actualise the Education For All (EFA), Universal Basic Education (UBE) and sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the context of next level agenda of the change mantra.
“This is in response to a compelling need to strengthen the implementing agencies of basic education, particularly the NCNE, which has unique mandate of promoting educational access and equity among nomads,” he said.
On his part, Chairman of NCNE, Prof. Gidado Tahir, said the training was measurable, specific, time-bound and realistic.
“The main idea behind the design of uninterrupted nine year schooling system for our children, including our three target groups – nomadic pastorialists, migrant fisher folk and migrant farmers, is to eradicate illiteracy.
“NEP is an integral part of basic education policy as enshrined in the Act establishing the Universal Basic Education Commission,” he said.
Tahir urged participants to take full advantage of the training to improve their knowledge, skills and competence.
One of the participants, Abbas Ibrahim-Aliyu, said the training would help them discharge their duties effectively.
