NCDMB awards prizes to winners of debate contest

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has awarded prizes to the winners of a debate competition held in commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day.

At the conclusion of the highly competitive debate, Federal Government College (FGC), Warri, Delta State emerged as the winners. The school, represented by Miss Osanoritse Blessing Kowe and Miss Eyituoyo Anne-Marie Awala, scored 76.4% to defeat Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Kazaure, Jigawa State, represented by Miss Sabiu Rabiatu Ibrahim and Miss Khadiya Shamsuddin, who scored 74.4%.

To reach the grand finale, Team FGC Warri triumphed over Team FGC Maiduguri, while Team FGGC Kazaure overcame Team FGC Abuja.

Each of the four finalists was awarded a high-end HP laptop, along with a plaque for their team, among other prizes.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, reiterated the Board’s commitment to combating corruption through preventive measures, both within its operations and in its dealings with stakeholders. He highlighted the NCDMB’s proactive efforts to curb corruption, including its support for the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACTU-NCDMB), which is provided with a functional office and the autonomy to carry out its responsibilities.

Ogbe further noted that the Board has implemented corruption risk assessments for key functions such as human resources, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, planning, and research, in order to reduce vulnerabilities to corruption.

He urged NCDMB staff to uphold integrity in their work and avoid any form of fraudulent activity, stressing the importance of preventive strategies to protect the institution from corruption.

Reflecting on the significance of International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD), Ogbe explained that the day serves to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of corruption and encourages vigilance in tackling the issue from all sectors of society.

The Chairman of ACTU-NCDMB, Alhaji Abdulmalik Halilu, expressed his appreciation for the support the unit receives from the Executive Secretary, which enables it to function effectively. He also commended the NCDMB’s internal measures aimed at eliminating fraud, including the establishment of the Projects Inspectorate Directorate to oversee the execution of the Board’s projects and facilitate industry engagement. Halilu also praised the approval of the automation of Board processes.
