The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has pledged its commitment to the development of local content in the telecommunications sector.

The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida made this known while delivering a keynote speech at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair on Tuesday.

The NCC EVC underscored the NCC’s unwavering commitment to promoting local content development in the telecommunications industry.

Speaking, Maida elucidated on the NCC’s pivotal role as an independent national regulatory authority, tasked with overseeing telecommunication services in Nigeria.

The NCC’s vision, as Dr. Maida emphasised, is to create a dynamic regulatory environment that ensures universal access to affordable and equitable services, thereby supporting the nation’s economic growth and development.

The trade fair was organised by the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines, and Agriculture (KADCCIMA), bringing together industry stakeholders, exhibitors, entrepreneurs, and the press to discuss and deliberate on the theme, “Sustaining Economic Recovery through Deepening Local Content Value Chain.”

In highlighting the paramount importance of deepening the local content value chain, Dr. Maida reiterated the NCC’s steadfast dedication to fostering an enabling environment for the telecommunications industry.

He further emphasised that promoting local content and innovation are not only central to the NCC’s objectives but also resonate deeply with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s strategic agenda.

The NCC EVC also added that the Commission has implemented a plethora of initiatives, including the establishment of the Nigerian Office for Development of Indigenous Telecommunications Sector (NODITS).

“This entity plays a pivotal role in promoting local manufacturing and assembly of telecommunications equipment, as well as advocating for local software development and digital skills entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths. Dr. Maida further stressed the NCC’s unwavering dedication to these initiatives, underscoring their potential to significantly contribute to technological advancement, job creation, and skills development within the country,” Maida explained.

He further reiterated the NCC drive to achieve sustainable growth, innovation, and inclusivity in the telecommunications industry, thereby contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic recovery and growth trajectory.
