Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended protesters in the state for their peaceful conduct and announcement to end their action following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broadcast.

The governor praised the leaders of the protest, saying their decision to stop the protest was a “crystal clear affirmation” that their collective voice had been heard by the government.

In a statement on Sunday signed by Honourable commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, Sanwo-Olu directed the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Information and Strategy, and Office of Civic Engagement to open wider channels of engagement with various stakeholders, including protest leaders.

This is in demonstration of the state government’s commitment to continuous engagement with the youth.

The governor warned citizens to be vigilant, stating that those who seek to divide the state may continue to post fake news via audio and video channels.

He praised Lagosians for rejecting anarchy and embracing peace, and commended the professional conduct of security agencies, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, community leaders, religious leaders, students leaders, and others.

“We must never give room to war mongering, scaremongering, and rumour mongering. That is not our way; that is not who we are. That is not our style,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor enjoined all Lagosians to continue their businesses without fear, stating that the state government is committed to engaging with the youth and addressing their concerns.

“We will continue to engage with the youth and ensure that their voices are heard. We will not let the actions of a few individuals disrupt the peace and progress of our state,” he added.
