The Executive Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission, Mr Ahmed Amshi has pledged to accord more priority to staff welfare, to enhance service delivery.
Amshi made the pledge after monitoring the 2021 induction/orientation programme for Legislative Aides, held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The theme of the training was “Equipping legislative aides with the tools to meet the challenges of legislative business in the 21st Century.”
He said the commission was working on an adjustment in the minimum wage of the legislative aides.
“The increase is just for level 10 downward, the lower level will see something meaningful,” Amshi said.
On outstanding arrears of some legislative aides, the Executive Chairman said the commission will discuss the matter with the management of the National Assembly.
“All issues of their finances is with the National Assembly management and it is what they have in the budget they will work with.
“I will talk with the Clerk of the National Assembly on the issue of arrears, we are in a very bad situation because it happened before we came.”
He urged the participants to imbibe the spirit of self-development to help themselves in the discharge of their duties.
“That is why we give this training a great priority and we try to give qualitative training, something that will be useful to the person.
“We conduct this training annually so that it improve the capacity of legislative aides. This is particularly for the legislative aides, but we are also making effort to improve the capacity of our staff.
“The world is changing, there are so many new advances in technology and I think it is high time we bring our personnel to meet up with this high changing demand of technology in the world,” Amshi said.
