Nasarawa lawmaker calls for collective efforts to improve standard of education
Mr David Maiyaki, member representing Karu/Gitata constituency at the Nasarawa State Assembly, has called for concerted stakeholders’ effort to improve on the standard of education in Nigeria.
Maiyaki made the call on Saturday in Karu while inaugurating a seven- man committee for a scholarship scheme for his constituents.
Maiyaki ( PDP) said that the committee was to work out modalities to ensure the successful disbursement of scholarship to students in his constituency.
The Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Survey, said the gesture was part of his modest contribution to his constituency in appreciation of the mandate they gave him in 2019.
This, he also said, was to address the plight of students as well as to reduce the burden of their education on their parents and guardians.
“This scheme will be continuous and in batches, so for those who will not benefit from the first batch, they should be patient as it will soon come to their turn,” the lawmaker said.
He added that students in their final year in different higher institutions of learning in the country would be the first beneficiaries of the scheme.
He urged the committee to be thorough in their assignment devoid of sentiments to ensure that deserving students benefitted.
The lawmaker assured the people of his constituency of sound representation at the state assembly in order to improve on their standard of living.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Jonah Ezekiel, thanked the lawmaker for his foresight in coming up with such a scheme and for finding them worthy of the assignment.
He assured the lawmaker that they would work assiduously to see to its success.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that other members of the committee include Mr Philip Ali, Danladi Asawu-Efuna, Dan’azumi Kurah, Joshua Danbeke, Ishaku Gurku and Musa Adamu.
