NAOWA inaugurates Skill Centre, distributes materials to officers’ wives in Ibadan 

The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), has inaugurated a Skill Acquisition Centre and a multipurpose hall at the Headquarters of 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan.

The wife of Chief of Army Staff and NAOWA President, Mrs Salamatu Yahaya, also inaugurated the renovated block of seven class rooms for the division’s NAOWA Primary school and distributed relief materials to wives of deceased soldiers.

The items distributed include foodstuffs, clothing among others.

The inaugurated centre was constructed by the division’s NAOWA branch, headed by Mrs Joy Chibuisi.

Inaugurating the projects, the NAOWA president said it was a testimony of the importance the association attached to the well-being of women and youths in the barracks.

She said that the centre would enhance trade skills, knowledge and capacity of NAOWA youths and other members in the cantonment.

The wife of the COAS said that it would engineer growth of families as they acquire skills to enhance their income and become self reliant.

Yahaya appreciated efforts of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi and the branch chairperson and members for the completion of the project.

“My vision of sustaining legacies and uplifting the tenets of unity and service of NAOWA among others, places premium attention on standard and expanding existing NAOWA assets and ensuring best practices.

“Efforts should be made to ensure proper maintenance, ensure that standard of learning is qualitative and to equip all facilities with high quality teaching aids,” she said.

She called on NAOWA members to rededicate themselves to providing necessary succour to barracks residents and supporting their husbands to give their best in service of the nation.

Earlier, the NAOWA chairperson, 2 Division, said that the centre would offer training on fashion and textile, shoes and bags making, cosmetology, hairstyle, barbing among others.

She appreciated the support of 2 Division and NAOWA national president to the actualisation of the projects.

In his remarks, the GOC pledged more support to NAOWA to improve the quality of life in barracks under the division.
