NANS President pledges commitment to rights, privileges of students

Mr Abdulmajeed Oyeniyi has pledged commitment to the rights and privileges of students as he emerged the factional President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Oyeniyi said this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja.

The election according to Oyeniyi was supervised by the convention planning committee and the convention Chairman saw the emergence of Oyeniyi.

He promised to create a platform where there would be proper engagement and dialogue between students and managements of academic institutions the corporate organisations and government.

On the alleged mass failure in the result of the just concluded UTME examinations, he said that he had already led a discussion with the management of JAMB where they made it clear that the decline in the results was not their fault.

He said that it was not true that JAMB was interested in frustrating admission seekers and parents through the mass failure

“In our meeting with the management led by the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede confirmed to us that JAMB does not have the powers to reduce or increase the results of the examination.

“We have also gotten the assurance that the poor results this year will not reduce the chances for admission,” he said.

He, therefore, urged admission seekers and parents to relax; stressing that JAMB has only done the ranking for tertiary institutions to conduct admission for the next academic session.
