NAN to strive for position in global ranking- MD
The Managing Director of the Newsmen Mr Buki Ponle, says that the agency will continue to strive to be a global authority in news dissemination and ensure it satisfies its clients.
Ponle made the assertion during a familiarisation visit to the South-West Zonal Office of the agency on Thursday in Ibadan.
Ponle, who assumed office as the agency’s managing director in September 2020, said that the agency aspiration was to be ranked at per or even surpass established news agencies like Reuters, BBC and other globally recognized news agencies.
He said that when he assumed duty as the managing director, the agency had lost some of its clients while some were reluctant to take NAN stories due to poor quality contents, but the story was already changing.
“It means we are improving in terms of the use and quality of our stories and in terms of our quantity output, so everything is coming up.
“Although we have not reached where we targeted, we believe that by the middle of this year, we would have surpassed the target and we would have even moved up to maybe between one and five.
“NAN is a reputable agency that has everything it takes to be among the top ten in the world like the BBC and Reuters.
“We have what it takes to be as strong, formidable and a force to be reckoned with as any other agency in the world,” he said.
The NAN managing director appealed to workers to show more dedication and commitment to ensure that the agency ranks high among competitive new agencies.
“What it takes is to come together and work together and be on the same page and the sky is our limit.
“Work harder, be disciplined and be resourceful and we are home and dry,” he said.
Ponle also reiterated his commitment to the welfare of staff to motivate them to do better and work towards a common goal of distinguishing the agency.
“We want to surpass where we are, we want to be a one-stop shop where our products and services are irresistible where we will win more clients and our existing clients will be satisfied.
“We promise to provide you with the necessary tools to make your work better and admirable,” he said.
It was reported that the managing director was accompanied by Mr Mufutau Ojo, a Special Assistant to Ponle and the former Zonal Manager, South-West Zone.
