Naira Redesign: NYCN calls for dialogue on govt policies
In order to ensure that government policies are devoid of adverse effects on the masses, it is absolutely necessary for government at every level to always consider an all inclusive stakeholders’ engagement before initiation.
This was the position of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos State Chapter) at a Press Conference organised by the youth body at the Ikeja Youth Center to address the crises occasioned by the policies initiated by the Federal Government.
Chairman, NYCN (Lagos Chapter), Comrade Biliaminu Sulaimon Oba while speaking on the theme: “On Cash Swap Policy, Peaceful Lagos Before And After 2023 Elections And Fuel Scarcity,” touched on the need for CBN to disburse new Naira notes.
He charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free, fair and credible election, frowned at the scarcity of fuel and implored youths to be ambassadors of positive change by shunning violence in the general elections.
In his words, “The National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos State Chapter) calls for all inclusive government policies in view of the current challenges facing Nigerians which has led to series of protests and agitations from all sections of the country. The country is in serious economic and social trauma.
“The Federal Government and its agencies must understand the fact that in order to have a more egalitarian society, there is a need to have an all inclusive stakeholders’ involvement before policies are enforced. The need to sample the opinions of all concerned persons before implementing any policy cannot be overlooked. We hereby urge the current government and incoming administrations at all tiers of government to take cognisance of this.”
According to Comrade Sulaimon-Oba the people should not be put in a state of discomfort and hardship like the masses are currently facing, hence government policies should be people oriented and not only beneficial to the political class at the detriment of the masses.
