The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) has received approval from the Federal Government to manage shipments containing radioactive materials.
This announcement was made by the organisation’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Tayo Ajakaye, in an official statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to Ajakaye, the authorisation was granted jointly by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA). The approval was outlined in a communiqué released following a meeting between both regulatory bodies on 6 February.
Speaking on the development, Prince Saheed Lasisi, the Group Executive Director of Commercial and Business Development at NAHCO, described the approval as a significant achievement and a positive step for both importers and exporters.
The Group Managing Director of NAHCO, Mr Olumuyiwa Olumekun, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its endorsement. He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to upholding the highest safety and regulatory standards. Olumekun further assured stakeholders that NAHCO had implemented meticulous procedures to guarantee full compliance with all necessary regulations, with highly trained professionals overseeing every aspect of the handling process.
This approval is expected to enhance Nigeria’s aviation sector by facilitating the safe and regulated transport of radioactive materials, aligning with international best practices and boosting confidence among industry players.
