NAFDAC conducts sweep in Bauchi market to remove counterfeit Milo drinks
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated a three-day operation in Bauchi State markets to remove counterfeit Milo chocolate drinks.
Dr. Paul Kamai announced this in an interview on Wednesday. He explained that the NAFDAC office in Bauchi began inspecting markets and superstores to eliminate fake Milo drinks following a directive from the agency’s headquarters. The exercise commenced on Tuesday and will continue for three days.
Dr. Kamai also mentioned that the agency plans to meet with the leadership of the Agrochemical Dealers Association later this week to discuss the risks of using harmful chemicals on food. Specifically, NAFDAC will address the dangers of Dicthlobenil and Paraquat, which are banned substances and pose risks when used to store food during the harvest season.
Additionally, Kamai urged bakers and packaged water producers to renew their licenses within the required two-year period, warning that failure to do so could result in penalties affecting their business operations. He also encouraged small and medium enterprises to register their products with NAFDAC to ensure they are properly integrated into the Nigerian market.
