Mushin LG chair prioritises quality healthcare, marks World Breastfeeding Week

The Chairman of Mushin Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, has reiterated his commitment to providing quality healthcare services to residents, particularly mothers and children, as the council marked World Breastfeeding Week.

The event, which was held at the Mushin LG Secretariat, had in attendance the Chairperson, Mrs. Olajumoke Bamigboye, State Health Officer, Mrs. Samuel Blessing, and Nutritionist Officer, Mrs. Ajiboye Abiola, among others.

Mrs. Bamigboye emphasised the importance of breastfeeding, stating that it promotes better health for mothers and children, decreases the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and maternal death.

Mrs. Samuel Blessing stressed that exclusive breastfeeding for six months and continued breastfeeding up to two years is essential for proper growth and development of babies.

The Nutritionist Officer, Mrs. Ajiboye Abiola, warned that improper breastfeeding can lead to stunted growth in babies and advised mothers to seek medical attention if they encounter any challenges.

Hon. Bamigboye commended the efforts of his administration in constructing model standard Primary Health Centres (PHCs), purchasing high-quality health equipment, and providing free ambulance services, among others. He promised to engage in more health programs and construct additional PHC centres for the benefit of Mushin residents.

“Health is wealth, and health improvement is one of my priorities for now in Mushin LGA. I advise mothers to do proper health check-ups and imbibe the habit of breastfeeding for their young babies,” Bamigboye said.
