MTN Nigeria announces nationwide closure of all their offices today
MTN has announced it will close all its shops in Nigeria today, July 30, 2024, due to protests over the disconnection of SIM cards for failing to link with National Identification Numbers (NIN). The company communicated this via social media and advised customers to use their digital channels for support.
Protests erupted as many Nigerians found their SIM cards barred. This action follows the Nigerian Communications Commission’s mandate for telcos to enforce NIN-linkage by the extended deadline of July 31, 2024. Reports also indicate damage to MTN’s office in Festac Town, Lagos, by disgruntled customers.
Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) has accused telecom companies of intentionally disrupting the #EndBadGovernance protest, urging the NCC to intervene. However, Engr Gbenga Adebayo of ALTON has denied these claims.
