A 20-year-old motorcyclist, Dauda Rabiu, on Thursday appeared before a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged criminal breach of trust and theft.
The Police charged Rabiu, of Dagiri in Gwagwalada, with two-count of criminal breach of trust and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mayowa Adefioye, told the court that the complainant, Geoffery Dangnap, reported the matter at the Gwagwalada Police Station on Dec. 30.
Adefioye said that the defendant went out with the complainant’s Bajaj motorcycle valued at N235,000 and later came back to tell him that the same motorcycle was snatched from him.
He said that during investigation by the Police, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of what happened to the motorcycle.
Adefioye said the offences contravened sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.
He prayed the court to try the defendant summarily and sentence him accordingly, while the complainant is compensated.
The Magistrate, Mr Yusuf Ibrahim, ordered that more investigations be carried out on the matter as a result of its complexity.
Ibrahim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one reasonable surety who must be a resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He said the surety must undertake an affidavit to forfeit the bail bond if the defendant jumped bail.
Ibrahim ordered that the defendant and surety must provide a valid means of identification.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 8 for further hearing.
