Motor boy remanded for alleged armed robbery

A 19-year-old motor boy, Isah Sanni, was on Wednesday remanded in police custody in Lagos State, for allegedly robbing a store of N1.25 million cash with a locally made pistol.

Sanni, who resides in Amukoko area of Lagos, was charged with two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The court, however, did not take his plea.

Chief Magistrate, L.Y. Balogun, ordered that the defendant be kept at the Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Balogun adjourned the case until Jan. 27.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at 5.30p.m. on Dec. 23, 2020, at Akinyemi str., in Amukoko area of Lagos.

She said the defendant went to the complainant, Mr Kolawole Olaoluwa’s shop and robbed his wife who was in the shop of N1.25 million cash.

Olaluwoye told the court that Sanni used a locally made pistol loaded with bullets to threaten the complainant’s wife.

According to her, the defendant was apprehended while running away from the scene of the crime and the money was recovered from him.

The offences contravened Sections 297(2) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297(2) stipulates death sentence for the offence of armed robbery, while 411 stipulates two years imprisonment for the offence of conspiracy.
