Modibbo Adama University awards 63 first-class degrees, 40 PhDs

The Modibbo Adama University, MAU, Yola, has concluded arrangements to award degrees to a total of 4,638 graduating students.

The university, a federal institution established 42 years ago, will on Saturday, May 13, hold its 27th convocation, when it will award 63 first-class degrees to its graduands

Others to receive their degrees include 1,069 second-class upper graduands; 1,783 second-class lower; 552 third-class and 40 pass degrees.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Abdullahi Tukur who addressed a news briefing Tuesday, also disclosed that the university will award 72 postgraduate diplomas, 480 Masters degrees and 80 PhDs in various disciplines.

“The certificates of the graduates are ready for collection on the day of the convocation,” the VC said.

He added that four eminent Nigerians, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and a former Adamawa State Governor, Bonni Haruna, will receive honorary doctorate degrees during the convocation scheduled for the MAU main campus in Girei, near Yola.

The other two personalities scheduled for honorary doctorate degrees are top businessman and philanthropist Muhammad Indimi, and seasoned educationist Dahiru Bobbo.

Newsmen reports that the Modibbo Adama University was established in 1981 as a specialised technical institution under the name Federal University of Technology, Yola; famously called FUTY after the initials of the original name, till date.
