Ministerial appointment: Buhari nominates Umana, Adegoroye five others for senate confirmation

President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated seven persons to be screened and confirmed for ministerial appointment by the Senate.

The list of the ministerial nominees was contained in a letter of request forwarded to the Senate and read by the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The names of the nominees include, Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh (Abia State), Umana Okon Umana (Akwa Ibom State), Ekumankama Joseph Nkama (Ebonyi State), and Goodluck Nana Opiah (Imo State).

Others are Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub (Kano State), Ademola Adewole Adegoroye (Ondo State), and Odum Odi (Rivers State).

In the letter, President Buhari explained that the confirmation request was in accordance with the provisions of Section 147 subsection 2 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

He added that the nominees would replace the former ministers that resigned from his cabinet including Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, Godswill Akpabio, Uchechukwu Ogah and four others.

The letter read in part, “In accordance with Section 8 Subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I hereby forward the underlisted ministerial nominees for your confirmation.”
