Minister directs FUOYE VC to uncover murderers of Modupe Deborah

The Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman has directed the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oyo-Ekiti, FUOYE to work with security agencies and the National Universities Commission to uncover culprits behind the murder of a nursing student of the institution, Miss Attanda Modupe Deborah.

The Minister described the murder of the student as heart-wrenching saying that the perpetrators should not be allowed to go scot free.

He gave the directive on Monday in Abuja at the Nigeria’s Annual Education Conference (NAEC).

The Minister of Education while speaking on the  theme for the conference, “Implementation of Education 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Nigeria”  affirmed that Nigeria  would strive until the country achieves 100 per cent of the targets set in the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and beyond to education related indicators and targets of Agenda 2060 of the African Union.

Prof Mamman charged authorities of educational institutions across the country to take every necessary step to ensure safety in their schools.

“Last week, the media reported the murder of a nursing student Miss Attanda Modupe Debora, a student of Federal University Oyo-Ekkti, same week that the safe school events took place.

“This is indeed saddening. The Ministry directs the Vice-Chancellor in concerted efforts with the security and the National Universities Commission to uncover the perpetrators of this heinous crime, while I reiterate the ministry’s resolve to secure our schools. Our condolences go to the family,” he said.

Prof Mamman added that government would work with relevant stakeholders for students to learn in a safe environment.
