Mining University in Plateau will bring rapid economic development – Senator Plang

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Employment and Productivity, Diket Plang has called for the establishment of a Mining University in Jos, Plateau State.

Plang made the request on Tuesday during an official visit to the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geo-Science in Jos.

He said he had initiated a bill to repeal the Act establishing the Institute of Mining.

Plang, who represents Plateau Central in the 10th National Assembly, explained that the establishment of Mining University will serve as a vehicle for increased economic transformation.

“If established, the University will serve as a vehicle for rapid transformation of the Nigerian economy, while its products should be able to provide technical services in all aspects of mining engineering and its allied courses. The choice of Jos is not misplaced, given the abundance of solid minerals in Plateau State”, he stated.
