Meter upgrade: NEMSA sues for calm, assures of quality upgrade
The Managing Director/CEO, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency(NEMSA) Engr. Aliyu Tukur has sued for calm in the public regarding the ongoing conversations around Standard Transfer Specification (STS) prepaid meter upgrade.
This is coming on the heels of calls by electricity distribution companies across the country for customers to take advantage of the window to upgrade their prepared metres ahead of the November, 24, 2024 deadline.
Engr Tukur in a statement assured the public of NEMSA’S readiness to ensure that all electricity meters and instruments deployed by the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) to electricity consumers across the country are of the right standards, specifications, safety and quality, needed to accurately measure and record electrical energy consumed, including assurance guarantee for safety of lives and property for end users of electricity.
Engineer tukur while giving clarifications on the upgrade process, urged electricity consumers not to be afraid.
He noted that the upgrade will require key change tokens through the roll over bit which will be provided by the distribution companies.
Engr. Tukur added that when the key change tokens are imputed, the process will force the metres to reset the TID stack memory to zero and change the metre key simultaneously for the upgrade completion circle.
