Meet Prof. Adepoju, the ICT wiz appointed to bolster Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda

At the heart of Nigeria’s digital transformation is the need for universal access, and this calls for a robust broadband infrastructure. Galaxy Backbone plays a huge role in this regard as it is largely responsible for the development of the backbone infrastructure of the nation’s digital agenda.

Galaxy Backbone plays a pivotal role in ensuring ubiquitous broadband access and making sure that the benefits of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) are accessible to all Nigerians.

Before the new round of appointments at Galaxy Backbone, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Bello had commenced commendable work at Galaxy Backbone to boost the deployment of digital infrastructure to bolster the nation’s digital economy.

One of such infrastructures deployed by Professor Muhammad Bello in promoting the digital transformation during his tenure is the National Shared Service Centre (Now Muhammadu Buhari Galaxy Backbone Headquarters). The National Shared Service is housed in a seven-story twin building which sits beautifully in the Central Business District area of the nation’s Federal Capital Territory.

The National Shared Service Centre is helping to reduce the cost of governance by serving as a common platform for sharing data across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). It is also driving the digital transformation of the public sector by deploying world class tech equipment across MDAs to facilitate effectiveness in the fulfillment of various government functions.

Until his appointment as the new Managing Director/CEO, Galaxy Backbone Limited, Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, was the Executive Director, Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone.

He is a Professor of Computer Engineering and he will be continuing from where the former MD stopped in pivoting Galaxy’s role in Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Adeyanju brings with him extensive experience from previous roles at Federal University Oye-Ekiti and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. Ibrahim Adeyanju holds a 2007 – 2011 PhD in Computing  atThe Robert Gordon University. He has proficiency in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Research, and Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, Programming, Genetic Algorithms, Matlab, and Lecturing among others.

Adepoju was also previously a Research Fellow (MIT-ETT fellowship) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Robert Gordon University.

As he resumes, Adepoju will be expected to spearhead the deployment of reliable ICT infrastructure, broadband network, database management, collaborative platforms and related services to all government agencies to facilitate efficient e-Government operations and digital transformation.

In this new role, Prof.Adepoju will be saddled with responsibility of developing innovations such as the OneGov platform to boost the efficiency and productivity of Nigeria’s civil service.

The task ahead is tedious but you never know what is possible until you start. With the dedicated and trained team members of Galaxy Backbone Limited, we can only believe that the best possible outcome will be produced for Nigeria’s economic gain.
